JOIN SVTU
SVTU is an autonomous union run by its members. This means that decisions about the union’s collective strategy, tactics, principles, and resources are decided democratically among members at regular general meetings and in committees where appropriate. It also means that the primary source of the union’s funds to sustain organizing efforts come from regular dues paid by members, contributed on a sliding scale according to each member’s capacity and commitment.
There is power in numbers, but only if our numbers are joined together in common cause. The strength of the SVTU comes from the diverse and growing band of Sacramento tenants who choose to become members and work together to help each other stand up to landlord abuse and build power to fight back against the predatory systems of privatized housing and their immoral agents, the landlords. Half of the battle is just showing up, so join the union today!
SVTU members decide democratically how to use our collective dues. Funds are used for resources such as our interpretation kits, printed materials and postage, tables and chairs, and food and drinks for tenant meetings.
Yes. SVTU membership dues are determined on a sliding scale according to ability to pay. If you cannot afford to pay monthly dues, you can sign up for a membership above and simply type in $0 where it says to choose an amount.
SVTU is a founding member of the Autonomous Tenant Union Network (ATUN-RSIA), and SVTU commits to the 12 Points of Unity which were drafted and signed upon ATUN’s founding in 2020. ATUN coordinates organization among autonomous tenant unions to help us share strategies and experiences, learn from and collaborate with our fellow tenant organizers in other places, and gather together resources and reflections.
